Botanicals Art Competition

We are pleased to announce our third Botanicals online Art Competition for the month of April 2025. The theme may include any work that interprets botanical and floral art (flowers, herbs, fruits, leaves, plants and related botanical subjects). All visual art mediums are allowed.
In addition to the selected artists, the jury will select award winners in the following art categories: painting, photography, sculpture. All selected artists will receive a digital award certificate. An article about each artist will be displayed alongside the best of show and three winners. The best of show will be displayed on the poster of the exhibition. Judging the artwork will be based on the following criteria: creativity, originality and quality of art, overall design, demonstration of artistic ability, and usage of medium. The jury will not consider artworks with pornographic or satanic content. Entry fees are $20 for two pieces of artwork. You may submit more than two images; there is no limit to the number of images an artist may submit. The application deadline is April 16, 2025.
Ketchikan Chamber Orchesta PERFORMANCE!

The Ketchikan Chamber Orchestra performs its Spring concert!! Featuring works by Bach, Holst, and Respighi. Please come out on a Wednesday and support Ketchikan's Chamber Orchestra - and listen to awesome music played by your friends and neighbors!
Admission is by donation.
The Ketchikan Chamber Orchestra is a fiscally sponsored organization of First City Players.
Arts Report on KRBD
Each week at approximately 8:20 am KRBD hosts the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council for their weekly report on arts and humanities in Ketchikan and the surrounding area. Get a synopsis of the local music scene, performances, Gallery exhibits, pop-ups, and Calls to artists. The Arts Report often features special guests from the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet, Artists, and Curators. Tune in weekly to KRBD 105.3 FM Ketchikan, Metlakatla and Saxman, 107.1 FM North Ketchikan, Ward Cove, and Ketchikan, 101.7: Craig, 90.7: North Point Higgins, 90.1: Mountain Point, Hydaburg, Klawock, and Thorne Bay.

Call to Carvers

Saxman Totem Park Restoration project is seeking experienced and new carvers to help re-create the frog border in Saxman Totem Park and the Welcome to Saxman signs along Tongass.
This is a good opportunity to hone your carving skills and meet other carvers in our community. Carvers will be paid for their work.
If you would like to participate in this project please reach out by mid April around the 18th so you can be assigned your carving location and hours.
This is a Cape Fox Cultural Foundation Project.

Friday Night Insights - "The Ties that Bind: A Short History of Ketchikan's Service Clubs" presented by Pat Tully
For over 100 years, Ketchikan has been home to service clubs—Rotary, Eagles, Lions, and other organizations—which have enhanced our community in countless ways. First City Rotarian Pat Tully will talk about the history of these clubs in Ketchikan and how they help strengthen community cohesiveness.

Craft & Connect presents "Basic Quilling". Saturday April 19th 2-4 PM
We will be learning to roll, size and shape coils to make a card and/or a piece of jewelry.
This is a fun, inexpensive papercraft that has been around since the 1500s.
