Sealaska Heritage Institute, in partnership with Ketchikan Indian Community and Tribal Health Clinic, will sponsor an in-person, hand skin-sewing workshop with Louise Kadinger, Sept. 26–29. Space is limited - scholarships available!
Cost: $100 fee covers a sea otter hide (a $350 value), as well as patterns, supplies, and instruction.

Call to Artists - Portable Southeast

Born from the need to connect, Portable Southeast is a region-wide opportunity to bridge artists, arts organizations, and businesses across Southeast Alaska. Portable Southeast is a traveling exhibit that is part of the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council (JAHC) Gallery Program.

All works should be inspired by life in coastal communities, small and/or packable, all media are eligible. The exhibit is curated by a group of people who represent various communities across Southeast Alaska, with a goal to coordinate a body of work by Southeast Alaskan artists that tours the region. The mission of this project is to provide exhibit opportunities for artists outside of their hometown, to build communication & networking opportunities among both large and small Southeast Alaska communities, and to create new partnerships between arts agencies and museums in Southeast Alaska.

Artists living in Southeast Alaska may submit up to 3 pieces for consideration, in any 2D or 3D media, subject to the following:

- Submissions (including framing and hanging hardware) must fit into a USPS Priority Mail Medium Size Flat Rate Box. Box 1, top loading dimensions: 11 1/4″ x 8 3/4″ x 6″ or Box 2, side loading dimensions: 14″ x 12″ x 3 1/2″.
- Submissions must be created in the last 3 years.
- Submissions should reflect some aspect of life in Southeast Alaska.
- Submissions must be gallery ready with proper hanging hardware installed.
- Submissions should not violate city, state, or federal laws or endanger viewers.

There is a $20 application fee to apply. The deadline to apply is September 30, 2024.

Rehearsals are every Monday from 7pm to 8:30pm at the First Assembly Church of God. The winter performance is Sunday, December 22nd at 3:00pm.

Each week at approximately 8:20 am KRBD hosts the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council for their weekly report on arts and humanities in Ketchikan and the surrounding area. Get a synopsis of the local music scene, performances, Gallery exhibits, pop-ups, and Calls to artists. The Arts Report often features special guests from the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet, Artists, and Curators. Tune in weekly to KRBD 105.3 FM Ketchikan, Metlakatla and Saxman, 107.1 FM North Ketchikan, Ward Cove, and Ketchikan, 101.7: Craig, 90.7: North Point Higgins, 90.1: Mountain Point, Hydaburg, Klawock, and Thorne Bay.

Thursday, October 3, 2024 12-1pm Presenters Yakdushí, Lisa Milne-DeWitt, and Kiyéis Tláa Natasha Clevenger, will discuss what Ketchikan Native community's Tlingit Language Team is doing in the community, in the schools, and what goals and achievements are being worked on to contribute to local Indigenous language revitalization. Traditional place names and the importance of local Indigenous history of the land will also be discussed.
