Blueberry Arts Festival Deadlines to Know!

FRIDAY, July 24
5pm – BLUEBERRY ART EXHIBIT DEADLINE
Main Street Gallery, 330 Main Street. Submit An open call exhibit in conjunction with the Blueberry Arts Festival. Open to artists of all ages working in any medium! Awards given for 1st-3rd Place Adult, Honorable Mention, 1st Place Youth, and People’s Choice. Exhibit runs July 31-August 28, 2015.  GET APPLICATION HERE.

5pm – KETCHIKAN’S GOT TALENT DEADLINE, This year during the Main Stage Extravaganza, Ketchikan will witness the vast talent of our community. Want to get in on the action? 2015 Blueberry Arts Festival Schedule of Events!

(Schedule subject to change.) 

FRIDAY, July 31
2pm – BLUEBERRY PET & DOLL PARADE.  Sponsored by Community Connections Early Learning Program.  Open to kids of all ages!  Dress up your favorite pets and dolls and meet in the city parking at the corner of Grant St and Main St.  Our escorts, the Ketchikan Fire Department Pipes & Drums, will lead us to the new Fire Department for cookies provided by Wells Fargo and the Ketchikan Volunteer Fire Department.

3pm – BEST BLUEBERRY DISH CONTEST DEADLINE, Main Street Gallery, 330 Main Street (entries served at exhibit opening reception).

5-7pm – BLUEBERRY ART EXHIBIT OPENING, Main Street Gallery, 330 Main Street. GET APPLICATION HERE.

7:30pm – 17th ANNUAL GIGGLEFEET DANCE FESTIVAL, Kayhi Auditorium.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 1
8am – REGISTRATION OPENS FOR FUN RUN: Front of Police Station, Grant & Main. 

9am – FUN RUN: 1- Mile Children’s Run (12 & under) and 5K Walkers, Presented by Ketchikan Running Club.

9:30am – FUN RUN: 5K & 10K
, Presented by the Ketchikan Runners Club.

9:30am – SLUG WEIGH-IN
for the Big Slug Contest! (12 & under) Methodist Church parking lot, Presented by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game with prizes from Ketch-i-kreatures!

9:30-11:30am – KIDS CRAFT TABLE OPEN, Miller Building Driveway, 426 Main Sreet. Make a blueberry or slug hat at the kids craft table!

10am-5pm – BOOTHS OPEN!  140+ artists and vedors! Vendor list will be posted after June 25th.

10am-5pm – BLUEBERRY ART EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY, Main Street Gallery, 330 Main Street.

10:30am – SLUG RACE (12 & under), Methodist Church parking lot, Sponsored by Alaska Department of Fish & Game with prizes from Ketch-i-kreatures!

10:30-12pm – INSTRUMENT PETTING ZOO, Main Street in front of the Main Street Gallery.

11-4pm –  COMMUNITY ART PROJECT, Main Street.  Everyone is invited to contribute to the community art piece, a large sculpture celebrating our local waters, so bring the scraps of plastic, metal, foam or other trash that you find left on our beautiful shoreline and help create a sculpture facilitated by Ketchikan’s own Coast Busters!

11:30am –  BLUEBERRY PIE-EATING CONTEST, Methodist Church parking lot.  Thank you Bar Harbor Restaurant for the pies!

12pm – SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL: PERCUSSION MAKING WORKSHOP & PARADE FOR KIDS, Miller Building Driveway, 426 Main Sreet.

12:30-4:30pm – MAIN STAGE EXTRAVAGANZA!

4pm – BLUEBERRY BEARD & MUSTACHE CONTEST
, Mike’s Elbow Room.  Can your facial hair compete for Best Artistic Presentation, Wild Man or People’s Choice?

4pm – TOTEM POLE RAISING CEREMONY, Vigor Ship Yard, light refreshments.

6pm – TOTEM POLE RAISING CELEBRATION WITH TRADITIONAL NATIVE DANCING AND PROTOCOL, Ted Ferry Civic Center.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 2

1:30-1:45pm – CHECK-IN FOR THE HANDMADE BLUEBERRY BOAT RACE, Thomas Basin. Be part of this new Blueberry Arts Festival event! Create a human-powered raft style boat and race it for fame and glory! Prizes for Most Creative, Fastest, and Most Likely To Sink, adult and youth categories. Race Time: Sunday, 2:00pm. CLICK HERE FOR REGISTRATION INFORMATION!

2pm – HANDMADE BLUEBERRY BOAT RACE BEGINS!, Thomas Basin.

3:30pm – ANNUAL BLUEBERRY ARTS FESTIVAL POETRY SLAM, New York Cafe.
