Dia de los Muertos Opening Reception

November 7, 2014 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Friday, November 7th

5-7pm @ The Main Street Gallery

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a holiday originating in Mexico and celebrated annually on
November 1. Because of the belief that the dead would be insulted by mourning or sadness, Dia
de los Muertos celebrates the lives of the deceased with festivals and lively celebrations—food,
drink, parties and activities the dead enjoyed in life. Dia de los Muertos recognizes death as a
natural part of the human experience, and on this holiday the dead are also a part of the
community, ceremonially awakened from their eternal sleep to share in the celebration with their
loved ones. The Main Street Gallery’s Dia de los Muertos exhibit is an Open Call show for
artists working in all mediums. We invite YOU to be a part of the exhibit by playing with traditional
themes, inventing your own tributes to mortality, or celebrating your loved ones, through artistic
expression.

Exhibit runs November 7-21, 2014.
